Tom is originally from Columbus, Ohio and is an Army veteran who served in the Third United States Infantry (The Old Guard) for six years. While with The Old Guard, Sergeant Carty was a member of The Continental Color Guard and participated in the Inauguration of President Bill Clinton, the Funeral of President Richard Nixon, and the 50th Anniversary ceremonies commemorating of the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach. After leaving active duty, Tom served three years in the New York Army National Guard.
For the past nineteen years, he has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and is currently a principal with the New York City Department of Education. Tom lives in a historic section of Douglaston with his wife Elizabeth Macaluso-Carty and their two daughters, Jacqueline and Elizabeth.
